Once upon a time in Massachusetts, there was a quaint diner called Five And Diner. This diner had become famous not just for its delicious food but also for the intriguing and mysterious stories that unfolded within its walls.

One autumn evening, a young girl named Lily entered the diner. Lily was unlike most other girls her age. She was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome, a form of autism, which made her interactions with the world quite unique. Nevertheless, she had a deep fascination with mysteries and often found solace in solving them.

As Lily took a seat by the window, she noticed the friendly waitress named Emily approaching her with a warm smile. Emily had become a familiar face to Lily, as she visited the diner regularly in hopes of encountering new mysteries to solve.

"Welcome back, Lily! What can I get you today?" Emily asked, her eyes shimmering with curiosity.

Lily pondered for a moment and then replied, "I'll have a milkshake, please. But this time, surprise me with the flavor!"

Emily chuckled and nodded, promising to bring Lily a unique milkshake that would surely spark her curiosity. As she disappeared into the kitchen, Lily's eyes wandered around the diner, absorbing every detail.

The diner was adorned with vintage decorations, from the checkered floors to the old jukebox in the corner that played timeless tunes. The atmosphere felt cozy, inviting patrons to indulge in nostalgic conversations and create memories that would last a lifetime.

Soon enough, Emily returned with a tall milkshake in hand. Lily's eyes widened with excitement. She took a sip and instantly felt a burst of flavor on her taste buds. Whirling thoughts raced through her mind as she tried to decipher the mystery behind this unique blend. Was it a mix of vanilla and lavender? Or perhaps a hint of cherry and almond?

As Lily savored her milkshake, a murmur filled the diner. People whispered about a peculiar incident that had occurred the previous night. The jukebox suddenly started playing a haunting melody all on its own, or so the story went.

Lily's inquisitive nature couldn't resist such a mystery. She decided to investigate further, hoping to uncover the truth behind the ghostly jukebox. With her notepad in hand, she began interviewing the diner's staff and patrons, carefully piecing together their accounts.

The more Lily delved into the mystery, the more peculiar occurrences she discovered. Strange shadows had been seen dancing on the walls under the dimly lit streetlamps nearby, and eerie whispers resonated deep into the night.

Her investigation led her to a local historian who shared a haunting tale of star-crossed lovers from decades ago. The plot thickened, and Lily's determination to solve the mystery intensified. She couldn't resist the allure of unraveling the tangled web of the past.

Days turned into weeks as Lily meticulously gathered clues, analyzed evidence, and juxtaposed historical records with present-day occurrences. The townsfolk became captivated by her relentless pursuit of truth, and the story of the Aspie girl in Massachusetts Diner spread like wildfire.

Finally, on a stormy evening, Lily called for a town meeting at the diner. She had gathered enough evidence and unravelled the mystery of the ghostly jukebox. With bated breath, the townsfolk leaned in, eager to hear her discovery.

Lily spoke with confidence, sharing her findings and connecting the dots. The ghostly jukebox was not the result of a restless spirit, but rather a cleverly hidden mechanism controlled by a mischievous local musician who sought to revive the nostalgia that once filled the diner's walls.

The room erupted in applause, and Lily's accomplishment became the talk of the town. Her brilliant mind and unique perspective had unraveled a mystery that had haunted the diner for years.

From that day forward, Five And Diner was regarded not only for its delicious food but also for the extraordinary tales it held within its walls. Lily, the Aspie girl, became a local hero, inspiring others to embrace their quirks, their passions, and their ability to solve mysteries.

Five and Diner is the fifth book in the Diner Short Story Mysteries series. These short stories are about 15-20 pages each and feature authentic diners around Massachusetts. Author Lisa Shea goes to each diner personally to write up its sights, sounds, and aromas. That way you, the reader, can take a virtual vacation to these historic locations! Visit Lisa's webpages to see photos and write-ups of the diners. All of the Diner Mystery series contain no violence, no swearing, and no intimacy, so they are suitable for teens and up.

You can read the books one-by-one as they are released, or you can wait for the boxed sets to be published once the series gets enough books in it. It's your choice! I try to write them right after I visit, so that's why there are sometimes gaps in the release schedule. It's not always easy to get to a diner when they're open!

A portion of all proceeds benefits battered women's shelters.
