Step 1: Start with a Magic Ring
To create the center of the flower, make a magic ring. To do this, hold the yarn end in your hand, wrap the yarn around your finger twice, and insert your hook through the ring. Then, yarn over and pull through the loop on your hook. This will create a secure loop to work your stitches into.
Step 2: Crochet the Center of the Flower
Next, crochet 10 single crochet stitches into the magic ring. Once you have completed the 10th stitch, pull the tail of the yarn to tighten the center of the flower.
Step 3: Begin Ruffling the Petals
Now it's time to add some flair to your flower by ruffling the petals. To do this, chain 5 and skip one stitch. Then, single crochet into the next stitch. Repeat this pattern around until you reach the last stitch.
Step 4: Create the Petals
For the next round, it's time to create the petals of your flower. Single crochet into the chain-5 space from the previous round, then chain 5 and single crochet into the next chain-5 space. Repeat this pattern around until you reach the beginning of the round.
Step 5: Repeat Step 4
Continue working Step 4 until you have reached the desired size for your flower. You can make it as small or as large as you like, depending on your personal preference.
Step 6: Finish and Secure
Once you are satisfied with the size of your flower, finish the crochet pattern by slip stitching into the first single crochet stitch of the previous round. Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread the tail through the yarn needle and weave it through the stitches to secure the flower.
Add a Personal Touch
While this one-piece garden flower is stunning on its own, you can add a personal touch by attaching a button or bead to the center of the flower or by sewing a stem onto it. You can also experiment with different color combinations or add multiple flowers together to create a beautiful bouquet.
The Joy of Crocheting
Crocheting is a wonderful hobby that allows you to unleash your creativity and create stunning pieces of art. This crochet pattern for a fun and simple one-piece garden flower is just one example of the countless possibilities that crochet offers. So grab your crochet hook, choose your favorite yarn color, and start creating beautiful flowers that will brighten up your garden and put a smile on your face.
Remember, practice makes perfect, so don't be discouraged if your first flower doesn't turn out exactly how you imagined it. Enjoy the process, experiment, and have fun with your crochet projects. Happy crocheting!

This short crochet pattern is for a single flower pattern excerpted from “Susan’s Showy Crochet Flower Patterns” which can be found in the Kindle store at http://www.amazon.com/Susans-Showy-Crochet-Flower-Patterns-ebook/dp/B00V8KASWG https://www.etsy.com/listing/227609950/flower-crochet-patterns-susans-14-new?ref=shop_home_active_6 (www.susanlinnstudio.etsy.com) The Ouside-In Large Zinnia is the most dense and natural of those simple and highly dimensional crocheted flowers. Here you find the instructions and step-by-step photos you need to work this bold flower pattern for a bag, centerpiece, or basket. There is a key to abbreviations, a note about materials, and of course the instructions themselves with lots of photos.
Materials: This large zinnia can be worked in any weight yarn with its suggested hook size; but I prefer a medium weight yarn and a size G for a nice tight stitch…and a light weight (baby weight) yarn with a size D hook for its center in a contrasting color.
The zinnia works up to be approximately 3 to 3 1/2 inches across when worked in medium weight yarns.
Feel free to make and sell items from my patterns; however, please do not pass around the patterns themselves, as they are my own copyrighted designs.
