In the age of the internet, anyone, regardless of age, gender, or background, can become a target of persecution. Justine Linden, a young woman from a small town, is one such individual whose life was shattered by relentless online abuse.

: Innocence Lost

The Rise of Cyberbullying

Cyberbullying is a disturbing phenomenon that has rapidly escalated with the advancement of technology. The harasser, often anonymous behind a computer screen, becomes emboldened to inflict emotional distress on their victims. Justine Linden's experience highlights how someone's online presence can make them vulnerable to such attacks.

The online harassment endured by Justine quickly intensified, with malicious comments flooding her social media profiles and her photography being plagiarized by the perpetrator. She found her work ridiculed and her reputation tainted, causing mental anguish and self-doubt to consume her every thought.

The Impact on Mental Health

As the abuse became relentless, Justine's mental health started to deteriorate rapidly. The constant questioning of her abilities, coupled with the feeling of being constantly watched and judged, took a toll on her self-esteem. She began struggling with anxiety, depression, and even contemplated suicide at times.

Justine's case is sadly not unique, as countless others have fallen victim to the perils of online persecution. The anonymous nature of the internet empowered the offender, allowing them to escape accountability and continue their relentless assault.

Seeking Justice and Support

Despite the immense pressure and emotional torment, Justine had the courage to come forward and report the harassment to the authorities. However, she soon realized the challenges of taking legal action against an internet troll, who seemed to be just a ghostly figure lurking in the digital realm.

Fortunately, Justine found solace in the support of her friends, family, and a community of online advocates fighting against cyberbullying. Together, they raised awareness about her case, exposing the perpetrator's identity and urging the authorities to take action.

The Road to Recovery

Over time, Justine's perseverance paid off, and her online harasser was brought to justice. However, the scars left by the persecution continue to haunt her. The road to recovery from such traumatic experiences remains challenging, but Justine has become an advocate for change, determined to raise awareness about cyberbullying and its devastating effects.

: Fighting Back

The persecution faced by Justine Linden serves as a glaring reminder that the internet, while a powerful tool for connection and expression, can also be a breeding ground for cruelty. Justine's story sheds light on the urgent need for legislative measures to combat cyberbullying and stricter regulations to ensure accountability.

As we surf the vast expanses of the digital world, let us remember the importance of empathy and kindness. No one deserves to be persecuted for their art, passions, or identity. Together, we must stand up against online harassment and work towards a safer, more compassionate online environment for all.

"The Persecution of Others" is based on a true story about a girl called Justine that has learning difficulties who has immigrated to Canada in the early eighties with her family to a province that is in great conflict with itself. She is caught up in a world that due to its history of persecution and bigotry has neglected the needs of the most vulnerable children. She is accompanied on her journey by her identical twin sister Samantha. The vulnerable child is protected and nurtured by her twin who is strong willed, articulate and a force to be reckoned with, a young girl who is academically and emotionally beyond her years and most adults. Along her journey of growing up in Quebec she is also protected by two Catholic schools (St Jude and Vaudreuil Catholic High School) that hide her and her twin within their academic walls and who eventually help her to learn to read and write despite her debilitating learning difficulties. Careers and lives of these teachers and faculty are potentially put at risk by saving the life of this vulnerable child, and because of this act of mercy these people are bonded together forevermore. The choice these teachers make is an act of love and a miracle because some of them are Parti-Quebecois supporters and yet they still chose the needs of a child over their own beliefs. To these young innocent girls Quebec is both the persecutor and the protector and as the story ventures further down the rabbit hole of their childhood you discover that their adopted Country and province have saved both of these children from a worse fate of their native country England. The book is co-written by the twin sister Samantha and this allows the reader the opportunity to see the circumstances that these children face from both sides. The perspective of an intelligent and articulate child’s as well as that of the child that is struggling with her learning difficulties. The bigotry they face is on many levels and in both countries for different reasons thus showing the true nature of bigotry itself. More importantly it is a story of triumph over adversity, love, compassion and forgiveness.
